Does a GIA Certified Diamond Require the Laser Imprinting of the numerics on the diamond?
I went to a GIA Certified Jeweler, but he said that most of his stones do not have the imprinting because some ppl dont want it. So if that is requested, he has to send it back to the GIA lab to get the Certificate # lasered on the diamond.
I thought all GIA Diamonds come from the GIA manufacture already engraved before they are shipped to the seller….
Pls advise on what you know, should it be engraved or not necessary?
I asked him how we know that diamond belongs to that certificate, and he said u can tell by looking at the minor inclusions in the diamond under a microscope and matching it to the certificate.
Your jeweler is right. Not all diamonds whether GIA or AGS have a laser inscription. If you want it, you have to pay extra for it and get it recertified.
My wife’s diamond has a serial number on it.
The best way to know your diamond is to get a 10 to 30x loop and look at the diamond carefully and verify the inclusions against the GIA or AGS certification.
Learn how to do this. A diamond’s inclusion are unique like DNA.
When I bring my wife’s ring for cleaning, etc., I bring out a loop in front of the jeweler and we look at the inclusions together and verify it against the certification so that we are *both* on the same page about the diamond.
When I get the ring back, we check it again together so that we’re in agreement that it’s the same diamond and no switching has occurred.
